When in 1894, a private company was formed the first Secretary and General Manager was W.J.Pearce, who came from Plymouth, and who held that post for 50 years. With him in those days was Harry Davey, who was Editor for many years, and was followed by his son, H. Godfrey Davey, who was associated with Pearce when the Company moved to the Unicorn, in Broad Street. Pearce and Davey continued to direct and edit the paper until the Company was formed in 1937, when control was secured by Ivor Griffiths of the George William Press.
