The logical route from Birmingham to Bristol would have been through Worcester, but by 1843, the directors of the  B & G. Co. having built their line through Bromsgrove suggested an approach by branch line from Bredicot to meet with the Grand Connection Rly at Worcester, but this was rejected. A public meeting at Worcester resolved that no railway should be sanctioned which did not bring the main line within a mile of the City.
