In 1791, a Cameron (of Worcester) became tenant of the ferry with the public house adjoining. The license for the pub was granted in 1564. There was no bridge between Glos. and Upton and this was the the only place to cross with a horse and carriage until 1828 when the Mythe Bridge was built
