Godwald was an abbot-bishop in Brittany of great virtue and high birth. He had a monastery of clergy on an island called Locoal, and a retreat on a small island called Plec. To Christians about AD 500 St Godwald had a great appeal for through him the forces of nature would be with them. The church at Finstall, Bromsgrove, is the only other church dedicated to him.
