Pirie or Perry Wood is the last fragment of the forests that once closely surrounded Worcester. In Elizabethan times, the wardens of Feckenham Forest met at the Commandery in Worcester. Lees mentions that a Nicholas Pirie held the manor and woods comprising of Perry Wood in the time of Edward I, but he thought the name came from the number of wild pear trees growing in abundance in and around the wood, but old maps and documents ref to Pirie, not Perry. Because of the cover afforded and easy access, it was the favorite duelling rendezvous of the City
