ST.RICHARD'S HOSPICE - PLEASE HELP |
St Richard's Hospice is a local, independent Worcestershire Charity caring for people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Last Year, more than 1000 patients and their families were supported free of charge. The Charity relies on voluntary income and the goodwill of over 550 volunteers. Prof's Pedal Push for Patients Professor Richard Lewis is cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats starting May 1st 2006 to raise funds for St. Richard's Hospice. The new St Richard's is currently being built and is due to open for patients in the autumn. The building will include all the current free services, plus 15 specialist hospice beds which are desperately needed but not available in our area. £2.8m annually is needed to provide the specialist care and support for patients and families. Professor Lewis regularly commutes about 125 miles by bicycle each week to work at the Royal Worcestershire Hospital which will help ensure he is in shape for the ride. Also 4 others will be cycling alongside, hopefully they should arrive in John O'Groats on the 20th Anniversary of Professor Lewis's first day at Worcester Royal Infirmary, he is also been a Govenor of St. Richards for the same length of time, and Vice Chairman for the past 7 years. During that time he's seen the hospice grow from extremely humble beginnings to the current exciting stage where he will open the new £5.25m bedded unit in the autumn. The trip will be dedicated to Desi Green MBE, a much loved district nurse, family friend and former hospice patient, who died in September last year, she touched the hearts of so many people she came into contact with. Desi's husband John will be road manager for the cycle trip. PLEASE GO TO http://www.justgiving.com/richard_lewis and donate through the site which is simple, fast and totally secure, it is also the most efficient way to sponsor Professor Lewis: St Richard's Hospice Foundation will receive your money faster and if you are a uk taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be addred to your gift at no effort or cost to you. No matter what amount every penny adds up to this very good cause, hopefully you will not require the services of the Hospice but somebody in our area is having the dignity care and help thanks to donation's and fundraisers, do your bit to help keep this going to the standards needed. On behalf of my Father who if not for Prof Lewis would not be here to day, I would like to wish him a very safe journey and and hope the target is met. I know some people like myself do not like using Online payment systems, please e.mail if you would prefer to send a payment direct and I will pass your details on, |
