Worcester City and County have always supplied a goodly proportion of men for the armed forces.The City had its own Artillery Company, and in 1684, it was directed as to their apparel " It was agreed by ye Common Council that ye pike men have white feathers, tipped with green, and white hats; and ye musqueteers to have white feathers with more green and black hats; and that ye pike men have showlder belts, and ye musqueteers to have wast belts and collars all of asort, and swords both of pike men and musqueteers alike; and if ye colours be green, with ye city's arms, according to my Lord of Plymouth's direction, who was present at this same meeting'.
