Friar Street is the most interesting of the medival streets left in Worcester, and this is due to one man, Mr.Matley Moore, who by saving the Greyfriars building, when the City authorities of the 1930-50 period had let the building deteriorate so badly that part of it fell into the stree. It was not just the saving of an ancient building, but the saving of the street from developers who wanted to sweep everything away. Even so, it was not posible to save that part, at the bottom of Lich Street, where stood a many-gabled, timbered building called the Old Deanery. In its place stands the exit of the multi-story car-park; one of the most brutal pieces of architecture, and completely out of place in this old street.
