The Eagle Vaults

Category: Worcester People and Places
On the corner of Pump Street stands the Eagle Vaults, a good example of a 1890 city tavern, with 'art-nouveau' tiles and lettering. Until recently it had the best sand-blasted, decorated windows in the City, including one engraved 'Snug Room'. Inside the Eagle Vaults the furniture is the original mahogany with black American cloth seating, and decorative cast-iron tables. The building is older, being of the period of Charles ll. This is a building worth looking again at, for it is only recently that public houses of that style have come to be appreciated.
